At East Brisbane State School, we are committed to ensuring that every child is supported to achieve their personal and academic goals. We know that every learner is unique, and we are proud to have a dedicated support team that works alongside classroom teachers and families to help students thrive.

Our support team includes:

Inclusion Teachers
Our inclusion teachers, collaborate with classroom teachers to provide adjustments and targeted teaching strategies that support diverse learners. They help ensure all students can access and engage with the curriculum in meaningful ways, fostering a culture of inclusion across our school.

Guidance Officer
Kylie Sweeting is our guidance officer, and she provides counselling and wellbeing support for students and families. Kylie plays a key role in supporting social and emotional development, helping students build resilience, and assisting with personal and academic challenges.

Our Therapy Dog - Poppy
Poppy is a much-loved member of our EBSS team! As a trained therapy dog, Poppy helps create a calm and supportive environment for students. She provides comfort, reduces stress, and encourages positive social interactions. Whether she’s listening to children read, visiting classrooms, or offering a friendly paw during playtime, Poppy supports the wellbeing of our whole school community.

Speech-Language Pathologist (SLP)
Megan Hawkes, the SLP supports students with communication needs, including speech, language, and literacy development. They work with teachers and families to provide strategies and programs that strengthen students’ ability to understand, express, and communicate effectively.

Occupational Therapist (OT)
Emily Winn, the OT helps students develop the skills needed for successful participation in learning and everyday school life. This includes fine motor skills, sensory processing, self-regulation, and organisation. Their support allows students to be more confident and independent in the classroom and playground.

English as an Additional Language or Dialect (EAL/D) Teacher
Our EAL/D teacher, Patricia Hammar, works with students who are learning English as an additional language. They provide targeted language support and help build confidence in both social and academic communication, ensuring students can fully participate in all areas of school life.

Together, this team provides tailored support to meet the diverse needs of our students, ensuring that every child at East Brisbane State School feels included, valued and empowered to succeed.
