English as an additional language or dialect (EAL/D)
The goal of an EAL/D program is to improve the students' level of English. EAL/D classes teach different language skills, depending on students' English abilities, interests, and needs. In East Brisbane State School we teach the following: conversational English, grammar, reading, listening comprehension, writing, and vocabulary. We follow Australian Curriculum and Reporting Authority (ACARA) guidelines in supporting equity of access to the Australian Curriculum for all students.
Religious Instruction
A Religious Instruction (RI) lesson is offered at our school for up to one hour per week in accordance with Queensland Department of Education policy. At their own discretion parents are free to choose for their children to attend. Children with parental approval make their way to the RI class each week. Students not attending RI Class are given classroom activities with their own class teachers. The lessons are non-denominational Christian based and conducted by approved church pastors and/or Nuns from Sisters of Mercy. These personal hold current Blue Cards and departmental Mandatory and Student Protection training registration.
